Services:
The laboratory team is committed to providing high quality pathology investigations for evidence based management of ailments among the students, staff and their dependants. The laboratory operates in two shifts, 7 days a week. Encompassing good clinical laboratory practices, the morning shift starts with monitoring and calibration (QA) of equipment, as a safeguard for good quality services. The laboratory has upgraded with modern equipment in the haematology and biochemistry areas to provide fast, easily accessible and accurate pathology reports. We have embraced ICT services (E-Hospital) with doctors/clinicians making test requests online and the lab thus ensure data security, confidentiality, and storage for immediate use and for later reference. Plans are underway to shift to the nearly complete modern laboratory before end of year 2015, in pace with continued improvement of services. This laboratory has discrete specialized branches of pathology that avail optimal infrastructure/environment for quality service delivery. We offer a wide range of investigation tests to support delivery of health services:
- Ante- natal profile investigations for the FP/ANC clinic (Ghana 4).
- ABO/Rhesus blood grouping
- Haemoglobin
- VDRL
- Hepatitis B surface antigen
- Malaria
- Urinalysis
- Pathological investigations for management and monitoring of patients’ health from the Comprehensive Care Clinic (CCC) at Ghana 2).
- ZN staining for Tb microscopy
- Hiv testing
- Liver function tests, Lipid profile, Kidney profile, and Full Hemograme etc.
- Medical examinations on all food handlers serving in the kitchens and eateries within the campus, for prevention and control of food borne infections in the KU community.
- Diabetes screening and monitoring (Ghana 6 clinic)
- Educative and health information programs in the community during events like the World Diabetes Day, Ku culture week and others
- Clinical pathological investigations to aid doctors/clinicians diagnose ailments among the out patient’s and inpatients. These include Immuno-hematological tests, serology, biochemistry, microbiology cultures and parasitological tests.
- Referral of specialized test to approved reference laboratory.
The laboratory networks with ministry of health (MOH), Kenya in Quality assurance and continuous improvement of services. We continue to serve as a source of valuable health data to students undertaking medical research and the MOH, Kenya
